Newcomerstown High students Alicia Moore and Austin King have been selected to receive the Ohio High School Association's prestigious Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.

The award, name for two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented each year to a male and female student who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship in their school and community.

Moore played volleyball and softball. She also earned the Tuscarawas County School Leadership Award and is class valedictorian.

King played football, basketball and track. He was District 5 Player of the Year in basketball.

Both displayed the characteristics for which this award was designed.

Newcomerstown Schools also recognized Joshua Green and Alyson Rexroad for earning the Ohio High School Athletic Association National Award of Excellence certificate.

This certificate recognizes outstanding sportsmanship, ethics and integrity. These two individuals are hard workers, good citizens in the community and great students in the classroom. Their ethics and integrity are second to none and have always showed great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout their four years at Newcomerstown High School.

Newcomerstown Schools also recognized Moore and Nathan Marinucci for earning the Ohio High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award.

This certificate recognizes the top female and male student athlete's in the senior class.

Moore has earned three letters in volleyball and four letters in softball and carried a 3.99 GPA. She plans on attending Muskingum University to study education.

Marinucci earned four letters in cross country and four letters in track and carried a 3.87 GPA. He plans to attend Walsh University and study to become a physical therapist.
