SHERRODSVILLE -- Registration is under way for the first ever Sports for Sound event on Saturday, Aug. 23. The event will feature a 5K obstacle run, 1 mile race, a walk, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and a small obstacle course for children.

Participants will run the first lap of the 5K wearing earplugs and the second half without to better understand their reliance on hearing. Entry fees for all events are $30 for participants who register by July 31, after that date the cost to enter is $40. Children may participate for $5. Registration information is online at www.sportsforsound.com.

The event will be held at the Eastern Ohio Sports Complex in Sherrodsville and will benefit low-income hearing-impaired people in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties. Chase and Amy Ross of Goshen started the non-profit organization out of concern for low income, hearing impaired people. The cost of hearing devices that can significantly improve the lives of people with hearing impairment can cost $5,000 or more and is generally not covered by insurance.

The family oriented event will include a silent auction and medals will be awarded to top finishers.

More sponsors and volunteers for the event are needed. Contact Ross at 330-432-2732 or email cross@three-leaf.com if you can assist in any way.
