MIDVALE -- Senior quarterback Brady Cotsmire ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as the Indian Valley Braves opened Principals Athletic Conference play with a 45-16 win over the Navarre Fairless Falcons on Friday.
The Braves jumped out to a 25-0 first half lead, with Cotsmire involved in the first four scores.
He rambled seven yards to paydirt to open the scoring with 6:35 remaining in the opening quarter and Ross Love added the PAT kick for a 7-0 edge.
Cotsmire then connected with Love for a 41-yard scoring strike at the 2:29 mark of the first, but the kick failed to split the uprights as Indian Valley took a 13-0 lead to the second frame.
Cotsmire then scampered 14 yards for his second score of the game at the 9:02 mark of the second and added an 11-yard scoring run with 2:58 showing before halftime. The kick for the extra- point failed following the first score and a running attempt for the two-point conversion came up short following the second to provide the 25-0 Braves' lead at the intermission.
Indian Valley (3-1, 1-0 PAC) got on the board again following the break, with Cody Carlisle plunging in from three yards out and this time Love split the uprights to up the Braves' lead to 32-0 with 2:16 left in the third stanza.
Fairless cut into the difference before the third ended, with quarterback Christian Simmons hooking up with Brock Wenger for a 49-yard scoring connection with just three ticks left on the clock in the third quarter, and then Simmons tossed to Logan Loretto for the two-point conversion to narrow the gap to 32-8 going to the final 12 minutes.
Brandon Ledbetter dove in from a yard out to up the Braves' lead to 38-8 at the 9:41 juncture of the fourth round and Love booted the PAT to make the difference 39-8.
The Falcons wouldn't go away quietly as Simmons utilized his arm again, throwing a 30-yard TD pass again to Wenger with 5:09 left and the quarterback ran it in for the extra two points to cut the deficit to 39-16.
Indian Valley closed out the scoring with Mason McKeown finding the end zone on a two-yard run with 2:31 left, but the kick for the extra-point failed providing the 45-16 final.
The Braves rambled for 367 yards on the ground on 47 running attempts and Cotsmire completed 3-of-7 passes for an additional 66 yards. Cotsmire was the workhorse on the ground gaining 200 yards on 23 carries with Love adding 89 yards on just seven tries. Love also had all three pass receptions for the entire 66 yards, while Brennon O'Conner picked off a Falcon pass returning it eight yards.
Fairless (2-2, 0-1 PAC) was only able to muster five yards of rushing offense on 14 tries. Simmons completed 17-of-26 passes for 207 yards and the two touchdowns, but was picked off once. Wenger had four catches for 121 yards and scored both Falcon TDs.
Indian Valley picked up 15 first downs to eight for Fairless. The Falcons fumbled the ball three times and lost two, while the Braves also had three fumbles,, but lost just one. Both teams were flagged four times for 35 yards and IV had to punt just once.
