Newcomerstown 68, Ridgewood 60
NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Host Newcomerstown High capitalized on a strong fourth quarter to blow open what had been a close contest and capture a 68-60 Inter-Valley Conference win over rival Ridgewood on Tuesday.
Both teams tallied 13 points in the initial quarter and Ridgewood forged a narrow two-point lead by halftime with a 15-13 scoring edge during the second frame.
Following the break, Newcomerstown grabbed the momentum with a 19-15 scoring edge in round three to take a narrow 45-43 lead to the final stanza.
In the fourth period, the Trojans erupted for 23 points with Bryce Barbera leading the way with eight while Ridgewood 17 points to remain close, but not close enough as Newcomerstown pocketed the eight-point league victory.
The Trojans (2-6, 2-5 IVC) connected on 26 field goals and added 15-of-22 from the charity stripe. Nick Millender led four Trojans in double figures with 22 points. Barbera followed with 16 while Brennan Wilkinn and Brandon Septer added 11 and 10, respectivley.
The loss for the Generals (1-7, 1-4 IVC) came despite hitting seven three-pointers and 18 deuces, but Ridgewood was just 3-of-5 from the bonus line. Jhett Slusser led the way with four long-range buckets and 16 points. Keith Leindecker followed with 14 points, with Braeden Smith also reaching double digits with 10. Zach Wright and Evan Colling chipped in with seven and six points, respectively.
