Strasburg 6, Newcomerstown 2

STRASBURG -- Visiting Newcomerstown High fell behind early and could not recover in dropping a 6-2 decision to Strasburg High in Inter-Valley Conference softball action on Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead after two innings of action and maintained the lead for the IVC win.

Senior Riley Kellish lead off the game with a solo home run for the Lady Trojans, with senior Karlee Peach adding an RBI single in the road loss.

Senior Jayde Bricker absorbed the pitching loss for Newcomerstown (3-4, 1-3 IVC), finishing with 3 strikeouts and three walks. Hannah Duff collected the victory with seven Ks and two walks for the Lady Tigers.

Strasburg (5-1, 2-1 IVC) was led by Morgan Crites with a double and single, with Hannah Reifenschneider belting a three-run home run.

Garaway 4, Ridgewood 0

SUGARCREEK -- Garaway High starting pitcher Allison Luneburg tossed a two-hit shutout at the visiting Ridgewood High Lady Generals on Tuesday afternoon in a 4-0 Inter-Valley Conference softball match-up.

Luneburg finished with six strikeouts without issuing a walk to collect the pitching win for the Lady Tigers.

RHS only managed singles from Kayla Sharier and Samantha Wilson in the IVC road loss to slip to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in IVC play. Wilson took the loss for the Lady Generals, finishing with four Ks and one walk.

Abby Detwiter tallied a triple, with two singles and two RBIs to pace Garaway (8-0, 2-0 IVC).

Buckeye Trail 9, Indian Valley 0

OLD WASHINGTON -- Behind a strong pitching performance from Hannah Smith, the host Buckeye Trail Lady Warriors remained unbeaten with a 9-0 shutout of the visiting Indian Valley Lady Braves Tuesday.

Smith struck out 10 and walked none in picking up her fifth win against no losses. Kayla Tschudy took the loss with relief help in the fourth inning from Ashley Tschudy. The pair combined for five strikeouts and no free passes, although Ashley did hit one batter.

Buckeye Trail (7-0, 5-0 PVC) banged out 13 hits paced by Smith who helped her own cause with two doubles and two singles to drive in three runs. Alexis Wheeler had a triple and sacrifice fly to also push across three runs. Amber Colvin, Jenni Carmichael and Alli McVicker each chipped in with two singles.

Indian Valley (4-4, 3-0 PAC) had just four hits with Jamie Beamer collecting two doubles and Taylor Williams a triple.

East Canton 3, Ridgewood 2

WEST LAFAYETTE -- Visiting East Canton High pulled a 3-2 upset over Ridgewood High in Inter-Valley Conference softball action on Wednesday evening.

Trailing by a 3-0 margin entering the bottom of the seventh the Lady Generals attempted to rally pulling with 3-2 on a Samantha Wilson double that plated a pair of runs, But the rally ended with the tying run on second base.

Josie Saylors collected the win for East Canton (1-3, 1-2 IVC) with a complete game effort with one strikeout and two walks.

RHS freshman Sydney Zinkon suffered her first pitching loss of the season to slip to 4-1. Zinkon tallied five Ks with one walk in the IVC loss.

Zinkon led the Lady Generals at the plate with a pair of singles along with Wilson's big two RBI double in the seventh.

Lexie Betz doubled and singled for the Lady Hornets, with Madison Harris contributing a single with two RBIs.

Claymont 10, Newcomerstown 9

URICHSVILLE -- Following a five-run top of the seventh inning for the Newcomerstown softball team to take a 9-8 advantage, host Claymont High plated two in the bottom half to walk-off with the 10-9 victory on Wednesday.

Claymont (6-3) scored in every inning except the third and NHS scored in the first, second, sixth and seventh innngs but came up just shy of the win.

The losing pitcher for the Lady Trojans was Riley Kellish who struck out two and walked four in relief of Makenzie Moner who worked the first inning and allowed one free pass.

The win in the circle went to Makenna Henry for CHS who earned five Ks and walked two.

Karlee Peach and Jayde Bricker both crushed two-run home-runs and singled, while Kellish and Moner also turned in two base knocks for Newcomerstown (3-5).

Freshman Keanna Avery slammed four hits and three RBIs to lead Claymont, while Samantha Arnold garnered three hits and an RBI and Madison Garrett generated two singles and three RBIs.

Newcomerstown 11, Hiland 4

Jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the first three innings, host Newcomerstown High rolled past Hiland, 11-4, in Inter-Valley Conference play on Thursday.

Jayde Bricker picked up the pitching win for Newcomerstown, fanning nine and walking four. Brittany Wengerd absorbed the loss with relief help from Brittany Troyer as the duo combined to strike out three and walk three.

Newcomerstown (4-5, 2-3 IVC) blasted 18 hits in the winning effort, led by Susannah Hall with a double and two singles. Riley Kellish and Jorden Moore added three singles each while Makenzie Moner, Karlee Peach and Kayla Gibson each chipped in two singles.

East Canton 5, Newcomerstown 2

Despite a solid game by Newcomerstown High pitcher Jayde Bricker and 11 Lady Trojans' hits, NHS was unable to pull out the victory, losing 5-2 to visiting East Canton in an Inter-Valley Conference clash on Friday.

East Canton (2-5, 2-3 IVC) put three runs on the board in the first inning and Newcomerstown (4-6, 2-4 IVC) ran into four double-plays, a major factor in the outcome.

Bricker fanned 10 hitters and walked three, but still took the tough loss in the circle for NHS. The win went to East Canton's Zoe Salyers, who had two Ks and three free passes.Every hitter in the Newcomerstown lineup earned at-least one hit and Lexi Betz paced East Canton by plating two runs with two hits.

Merada Morehead and Caitlin Durr each had two singles for the Lady Trojans.

Waynedale 11, Newc'town 3

Claymont 7, Newc'town 5

CLAYMONT -- Newcomerstown High dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday with an 11-3 loss to Waynedale in the opener and a 7-5 setback to host Claymont in the second game.

In game one, Newcomerstown (4-8) cut Waynedale's lead to 4-3 but a seven-run sixth inning blew it wide open.

Riley Kellish took the loss for NHS with five Ks and seven walks, while Megan Amstutz pulled out the win with five strikeouts and two free passes.

Waynedale (6-6) was led by Kendle Lloyd, who laced five hits and two RBIs while Megan Wyss collected a pair of hits.

Jayde Bricker delivered two singles to lead the Lady Trojans.

In game two, Newcomerstown had a 5-2 lead until Claymont struck for five runs in the fifth to take over the game for good.

Samantha Arnold tossed five innings and struck out six to get the pitching win for Claymont before Lindsey Malterer came on for the save in the sixth. Bricker suffered the loss for NHS with three Ks and a walk.

Kenzie Herron gathered three hits for Claymont and Keanna Abrey added two hits.

Makenzie Moner supplied three hits for the Lady Trojans' offense, followed by Peach, Bricker, Susannah Hall and Rachel Hinton with two-hit games.
