MAGNOLIA -- Ridgewood High pulled a big upset on Monday night by slipping past state-ranked Sandy Valley by a 4-3 final score in 10 innings.
The Lady Cardinals entered the night ranked 6th in the latest Division III state softball poll with a 15-5 record.
Samantha Wilson delivered the game winning basehit in the top of the 10th inning to score Kayla Sharier who had led off with a triple for the Lady Generals.
Wilson also picked up the win with four solid innings of relief work for RHS.
Sharier finished with a triple, double and RBI to pace the Ridgewood (12-9, 7-6 IVC) offense, with Wilson ending her night with a double, single and two RBIs. Audrey Tingle, Paige Patterson and Morgan McDorman each chipped in with two singles for RHS.
BERLIN -- A quick start lifted Newcomerstown High to a 8-1 victory over host Hiland High in Inter-Valley Conference softball action on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Trojans tacked on three runs in the top of the first to seize early control and were able to maintain the edge all night.
Riley Kellish and Karlee Peach led the Newcomerstown offense with three singles each, while Miranda Thornton added a pair of basehits with two RBIs for the Lady Trojans.
Jayde Bricker collected the pitching win for Newcomerstown (7-15, 4-9 IVC) with a complete game effort with five Ks and three walks.
WEST LAFAYETTE -- After heading into extra innings, Ridgewood High allowed the go-ahead run to score in the top of the ninth and fell to visiting Strasburg High by a 2-1 edge on Tuesday, in Inter-Valley Conference action.
Samantha Wilson tossed a complete game, striking out five and walking only one but took the tough loss, while Hannah Duff earned the win for Strasburg (15-6, 9-4 IVC) with five Ks and one walk in a complete game effort.
Audrey Tingle blasted a solo-homer in the sixth for Ridgewood (12-10, 7-7 IVC), while teammate Morgan McDorman delivered a single for the only two hits for the Lady Generals.
The seven seniors on the Newcomerstown High softball team left their home field for the final time in style, with a walk-off 5-4 victory over visiting Garaway High, the fifth ranked team in Ohio, in Inter-Valley Conference action on Tuesday.
Garaway (22-2, 13-1 IVC) held a 4-0 advantage to start the seventh but the motivated Lady Trojans battled back and tied it on an RBI from Makenzie Moner and a three-run home-run by Riley Kellish. NHS then won it when Caitlin Durr grounded out and Karlee Peach sprinted home from third to score the game-winner.
Jayde Bricker was the winning pitcher, striking out three and walking five in a complete game effort, while Kassidy Reidenbach took the loss with two Ks and a pair of walks in relief of starter Allison Luneborg who went five innings with no walks and nine strike-outs.
Newcomerstown (8-15, 5-9 IVC) was led by Kellish who garnered three hits, followed by Moner who recorded a pair of singles, while Kaitlyn Stress paced GHS with two hits.
"This was an emotional win for us," Newcomerstown Chuck Peach stated. "I was choked up and could hardly talk to the team after the game.
"They are the best team around and a class program," he added. "Hopefully we can use this as a spring board going into the tournament."
Tuscarawas CC 3
NEW PHILADELPHIA -- Newcomerstown High picked up steam for the upcoming tournament with an 8-3 road victory over Tuscarawas Central Catholic in Inter-Valley Conference softball action on Wednesday.
The Lady Trojans banged out 14 hits in the win led by Riley Kellish with a two-run home run, two singles with two RBIs, with Karlee Peach chipping in with a double, two singles for the Lady Trojans. Mackenzie Moner and Kayla Gibson each finished with two singles for NHS with Jayde Bricker and Jorden Moore each ripping a double.
Bricker collected the pitching win for Newcomerstown in a relief role with seven Ks and one walk.
East Canton 0
CANTON -- Ridgewood High rolled to a lopsided 16-0 victory over host East Canton on Wednesday in Inter-Valley Conference softball action.
The Lady Generals reeled off 16 hits in the victory paced by Kayla Sharier with a double, two singles with Autumn Brown adding a double, single with two RBIs and Allyssa Grove finishing with a double, single and three RBIs. Sydney Zinkon added a pair of singles with two RBIs, Audrey Tingle stroked a triple with two RBIs and Paige Patterson singled with three RBIs.
MALVERN -- Audrey Tingle had a five-for-five afternoon as visiting Ridgewood High scored an 8-1 victory over Malvern in Inter-Valley Conference action on Thursday.
Tingle had a two-run triple and four singles to lead the Lady Generals (14-10, 9-7 IVC). Autumn Brown collected three singles and an RBI; Allyssa Grove had a double, two singles and an RBI; Samantha Wilson had two singles and two RBI and Morgan McDorman added two singles.
Sydney Vinkon pitched six innings and Samantha Wellston worked the seventh against Malvern (8-9, 5-8 IVC). They teamed on a two-hitter with two strikeouts and three walks.
