MAGNOLIA -- Ridgewood High enjoyed a successful day at the Division III Sectional Tournament with taking runner-up at the event hosted by Sandy Valley High on Saturday.

Garaway won the sectional team championship with 173 points, just ahead of second place Ridgewood's 170.5 total. Sandy Valley (127.5) was third followed by Edison (124), Harrison Central (121), Tuscarawas Valley (95.5), Caldwell (83), Shenandoah (60), Newcomerstown (48.5), Malvern (40), Tuscarawas Central Catholic (28) and Toronto (21).

A total of four RHS grapplers captured sectional titles for the Generals including Colton Bethel with a 2-0 victory over Gavin Weaver of Newcomerstown in the 106-pound weight division; Tyler Caudy pinned Collin Wiley of Caldwell in the 132-pound title bout; Jason Merrill picked up a 12-2 major decision win over Garaway's Jerrod Hunt at 160-pounds; Kasey Bethel rounded out the Ridgewood sectional champions with a 7-4 decision over Grant Hershberger of Garaway in the 170-pound weight class.

Also advancing for the Generals with an runner-up effort was James Kedigh who suffered a 12-1 defeat to River Pappas of Richland Edison in the 220-pound championship match.

Ridgewood wrestlers advancing on to districts with third place showings include Kevin Bethel who pinned Christian Wright of Garaway in :49 seconds in 152-pound action; Jason Stubbs recorded a pin over Peyer Hopwood of Tusky Valley at 182-pounds in 1:38; Nathaniel Thompson collected a pin in 2:05 over Weston Woods of Garaway at 195-pounds.

Newcomerstown will send two grapplers to the district after runner-up finishes.

Weaver advanced despite the loss to Bethel in the championship match-up while Anthony Sanders was second at 145 pounds, losing via pin to Tanner Petitte of Garaway in the title bout.

Earning district alternate status via fifth place finishes was Newcomerstown's Daniel Meeks at 195.

Division II Sectional

UHRICHSVILLE -- Host Claymont once again claimed the team title at the Division II Sectional Wrestling Tournament on Saturday with Indian Valley High placing third in the team standings.

The Mustnags took the team title with 237 points, with Beaver Local as the runner-up at 206.5. Indian Valley (198.5) took third followed by Minerva (152.5), River View (97.5), Indian Creek (91.5), New Philadelphia (75), Meadowbrook (71), Maysville (51.5), East Liverpool (44), John Glenn (42), Philo (31) and St. Clairsville (27.5).

The Braves collected a pair of sectional titles with Brady O'Connor pinning Abe Frizzell of Meadowbrook in 1:56 in the 113-pound championship match, while Dalton Burcher also recorded a pin in just :46 seconds over Skyler Lasure of Beaver in the 120-pound championship match-up.

Advancing on to district competition for IV with runner-up showings were Therron Stocker who dropped a 13-2 decision to Chandler Golec of Claymont in the 132-pound title match-up; Jarrett Swinderman absorbed a 12-0 loss to Ashton Eyler of Claymont at 160-pounds; Brodey Parsons suffered a tough 3-1 setback to Reggie Hancock of Minerva in the 182-pound championship match.

Collecting third place finishes to also advance to districts for the Braves were Adam Lenhoff who blanked Nolan Smith of Minerva 2-0 at 126-pounds; Matthew Love picked up a 9-3 decision over Beaver's Jared Wright at 145-pounds.

Rounding out the Indian Valley district qualifiers with fourth place showings were Jake Armstrong who took a 12-0 major decision loss to Seth McGee of Minerva in 152-pound action and John Pankuch who dropped a tight 9-7 decision to Kole Aubiel of Claymont at 195-pounds.
